The, Simon is really back and other ramblings edition!

  • 2 Comments... Have your say!

Yes, this time I am really back.  Its been a busy few weeks since the last time I wrote, but I have overcome a number of hurdles and this time I will be making regular updates to the blog…..I promise.

So, its been a hectic few weeks and I have quite a bit to say to here we go.

Don’t host your blog with 1and1

I have had a torrid time with 1and1 and that is the main reason why I have not been updating this blog.  Everything was running OK with 1and1 but recently stuff just stopped working as expected. Plugins would not update, wordpress would not update and frankly it was becoming a huge pain in the arse.  So I have been moving everything over to Just Host which so far seems to have gone relatively smoothly.  Just Host offer some nicely priced hosting packages and their support seems to be bang on, which is far more than I can say for 1and1.

Shameless Affiliate Plug:

I participate in the Just Host affiliate programme so if you want decent honest hosting at a competitive price then you can sign up with them here.  In the interest of disclosure, I do receive commission payments from Just Host for all successful sign ups through my link, however it does not cost you any more to use my link.

moving swiftly on

Blogs, Blogs and more blogs

Those of you that have bothered to read my “Who is Simon” page will know that I run a very small but awesome Technology Company which has traditionally offered the usual range of boring IT services e.g. tech support etc etc.  However as part of my renewed marketing changes which I documented at great length on these posts:

I have been inundated with setting up Wordpress blogs for both existing clients and new clients.  This is awesome on 2 counts

  1. Its work I actually enjoy doing
  2. My marketing shift is obviously working

This is now proving so popular that I am busy turning this into packaged service, more of that later.

Zubworld is gaining momentum

I have written a couple of posts on a new social networking site that links not only people but places.  Zubworld is due to launch in beta on the 01.01.10 and I was lucky enough to have a sneak peek at the site.  I must confess that I am not a huge Facebook nut or for that matter any other social network.  Having said that Zubworld seems to bridge the gap that many of the other networks miss i.e. linking people and places.

So what does it look like?

The site looks stunning, bright and cheerful.  I am no design expert but the colours and icons all work well and the interface with the maps is slick.  You can get a sneak peek of the interface by clicking this link.  The team at Simpleweb have done a great job in building the site – Great job guys!

Is it going to catch on?

Only time will tell and as we all know getting traction in the social network space is not easy.  But I think this has got legs and certainly shows a different angle to the social networking scene.  I personally am confident that it will be a serious competitor in the social network arena (shit that’s the third time I have used the social network phrase!!), but then again I said that Twitter would be a flash in the pan, so don’t take my word for it – get yourselves over to Zubworld.com and see for yourself.

Update – as I write this, the Zubworld management team are pitching at the Christmas Crunch

Mouseproud has got a new Pink Blog

My mate Chris Harding from Mouseproud, is a smart cookie and recently took me up on my blog service and he now has a spanking new but very pink blog.  I wont go into the details of why its pink, Chris is better placed to explain that one!  The blog is very much work in progress but its coming along and most importantly he is happy with it. Chris is a first class software trainer and if you are looking for some help then he is well worth contacting.

The theme is based on the rather cool Thesis.  If you want to get thesis you can purchase it from here (Yep this is an affiliate link and I get a bit of coin, but hey its Christmas so why not!)

So that is me for now.  Thanks for taking the time to read this and don’t let it be your last visit!!

If you want to berate me or praise me then please do leave a comment below, it will make me feel loved.

  1. What Simon doesn’t tell you in his article is how quickly he got my new site up and running, despite the extra work involved in extricating stuff from 1and1 (I was with them too).
Within 24 hours of him sitting in front of my PC, the fabric of the new site was well in place and I was happily adding stuff to it. Despite being a software trainer, my knowledge of HTML, CSS and all that guff is minimal. Simon eagerly took that part on himself and I’m left with a shiny pink new site that is so easy and quick (thanks Justhost) to update.
If you want to know why it’s pink, you need to look at it then ask me yourself!
Seriously, this guy knows his stuff, recommends proven suppliers and has support as a middle name.
    Simon, you rock!
