Its been a little over a month since I migrated my little Asus Eeepc over to Windows 7 and I thought I would provide an update on how the machine has been working.
So far so good, the machine has performed flawlessly and I have not experienced any major issues at all. No crashes, no hangs and in my opinion the performance has been far better than when the machine was running Windows XP. As with everything there have been a couple of small issues mosty notably was Firefox, which seemed to take forever to load certain pages, however after removing the Skype plugin everything started to work as normal. I am not sure if anyone else has had any issues with the Skype plugin, but I would be interested to hear from you if you have?
So all in the Windows 7 experience has been suitably impressive. It is easy to find stuff and I haave not experienced any of the slowness that was inherent in Windows Vista. Given the fact that it is running so well on the modest hardware that the netbook posseses, at least shows that Microsoft have listened to the community.
Is it worth the upgrade?
It is still early days, however I would say that it is worth the upgrade. I have given it a good hammering for a month now and have not seen anything that would cause me concern and it is still performing as if it was a fresh install. It maybe that Microsoft have got this one right!
